2010 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Beauty Review

The 2010 Emmy's were, dare we say, kind of a makeup and hair dissapointment! Usually we are clamoring to post up our favorite picks of the night, our latest inspiration, but this year we found ourselves searching for a few favorites, or two....?

Our usual style stars really left us wondering a big "what happened"? Like Kim K, she is our makeup and hair go to but we fell asleep on the couch as she walked down the red carpet. Yes we get it, the look is about lashes, long and lots of them but did everything else have to be such a snooze including her hair? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
Kim Kardashian
January Jones, always one to watch wore a striking electric blue dress but her makeup and hair? Winged black liner, pale lips and a messy bob? Another snooze!
"Mad Men" star January Jones
Our favorite of the night was Claire Danes, we suppose she was everyone's favorite because she got it right, bronzed goddessness all the way! Look at me lashes, soft pink cheeks and lip framed by sunkissed blonde locks? This look was pretty perfect in a sea of pretty okay.
Claire is the newest celebrity spokes model for Latisse and those lashes have us Dolls dreaming of la la Latisse prescriptions!

The Dolls Recommend - Makeup Forever Micro Finish Blush

The Makeup Dolls love a cream blush! Though we admit we are pretty well obsessed with Stila's Convertible Color, we thought we would give Makeup Forever's Micro Finish Blush a little try...it's amazing! Why, oh why, haven't we tried it until now!

Creme blush always has a more natural finish than powder, with it's slightly dewy appearance and transparent quality. This product is no exception! When first applied the color looks extremely bright and pigmented, but with a bit of blending with your fingertips, it finishes very sheer and extremely natural. We were impressed too with it's staying power, we were naturally blushing all day long.

Our favorite color pics are...(racy names ha ha ha!)
# 5 Nip Slip - Neutral Pink
#8 PDA - Pinky Nude
#12 First Kiss - Bright Apricot

This is product is sold at Sephora and retails for $25.00.

Ask The Dolls - Zit zapping solutions ASAP!

A question from our Facebook page: "What is your suggestion for a quick fix zit zapper...I am in a wedding on Saturday and my face is a mess!!!"

Two things that will help with your skin emergency are:

Zeno, it's a gaget you can purchase at CVS or other local drug store that kills the bacteria underneath the skin and reducess redness and size on imperfection.

Our personal fav, available at your local Ulta store, is Mario Budesco Drying Lotion. It works fast in reducing size and appearence of blemishes. That pink potion should get your skin back to greatness in no time!

The Dolls Recommend - Stila Custom Color Blush

Love, love, loving Stila's Custom Color Blush! It is the perfect shade of bright pink blush that is perfectly suited for you and perfectly suited for us!

The powder is nothing short of silky smooth, as it glides on beautifully with buildable coverage. As it warms on the skin the color changes to suit your skin type.

Stila asserts that the blush works with your skins PH to create a one of a kind custom color.  From Stila "The blush contains a spherical silicone elastomer treated powder that provides a soft focus effect and diffuses light. There is a silky feel leaving skin soft and smooth. The treated silicone powder fills in fine lines and wrinkles on the skin, making it appear more youthful".

We simply love it and will be using it on our brides! You can purchase this blush on line at www.stilacosmetics.com or at your local Sephora store.

The Dolls Recommend - T-Zone Mattifiers

What to do about a shiny T-Zone?!?!?!  Foundation and powder go on in the morning, beautiful right? Then half way through the day your makeup is all but gone and you are left with a shiny, oily nose and forehead.
For gals with an oily T-Zone this is a daily battle but there is a solution....a product that can be applied to the skin under foundation and powder to give a matte finish that will last all the day long. Here are our favorite picks:

Clinique - Pore Minimizer T-Zone Shine Control $14.50
This product creates a matte look over the T-zone area while minimizing the look of pores. It leaves a velvety-soft natural finish, under or over makeup.
Smashbox - Anti Shine $27.00
Designed to hold up under hot studio lights so imagine how well it works for daily wear. This gel to powder formula has a cool feeling when you apply, quite refreshing!
Origins - Zero Oil $12.00
Apply under makeup for ultimate matte finish or use over makeup for a quick touch up during the day. Ingredients include oil-foiling Silicates, astringent Winterbloom, plus calming Chinese Camphor.

Sweet Surprise - Is this not the most darling proposal idea?

Yes, this has nothing to do with makeup or hair but it was to do with love and marriage and it's about the cutest proposal idea we have seen! From  Angela + Ithyle
"These are the pictures from when we got engaged.  I have no idea in frames one and two and am really confused in frame three (lets never make that face again!) and really surprised in frame four."

We absolutely love this proposal idea!

Wedding Day - Jamie

Some outstandingly beautiful shots of Jamie on her wedding day at The Carneros Inn. We have to say that Jamie was one of the calmest brides we have ever worked with. She was simply serene...well and simply stunning of course!

We had the best time getting to know Jaime and her amazing family! Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your day Jamie!

We dolls just love a wavy look on our tresses! You ask, "How do all the celebs get their hair like that"? Well there is an amazing curling iron that makes it so easy to achieve!  With the Enzo Milano Clipless Iron, basically you wrap the hair around the iron barrel instead of clamping it as with a conventional curling iron.

On Enzo Milano's site, there are tutorials on how to achieve this glamorous look. All you need is the iron, a great medium hold with shine hairspray (we love Bumble&Bumble Spray De Mode) and a boar bristle brush. Once you have curled your hair, give it a good spray, brush softly and voila! There are many versitile looks that you can create with this tool and that's why we give it the Dolls stamp of approval!

Fabulous Finds - Stila # 33 One Step Complexion Brush - NEW!

Stila has just launched their new fall collection and one of the standout favorites is the new #33 One Step Complexion Brush. We really love the way foundation brushes apply product and this brush has the added bonus of a concealer brush on the other end! Wouldn't this brush be perfect for your gym bag, as one less brush to pack for that weekend getaway and for every day ease? Here is what Stila has to say....

"This dual-ended foundation and concealer brush allows you to blend both liquid and powder products seamlessly for effortless makeup application and a flawless finish.
One side beautifully blends liquid, creams and powder foundation into your skin, while the other delivers precision concealing for a perfected, polished complexion.
The synthetic bristles are shaped to imitate application with your fingertips, but are firmer and more flexible for quicker, easier makeup application.

  • The tapered brush tip can burrow into tiny, hard-to-reach crevice
  • Synthetic bristles eliminate the transfer of oils and bacteria
  • Can also be used to apply eye shadow and cheek color
This brush does double-duty! There is no need to carry a whole brush set anymore, a flawless complexion (and color) can be achieved with just one brush!"

Purchase online at www.stilacosmetics.com or Sephora Stores.
