The Dolls Recommend - "That Gal" Primer by Benefit

We love, love, love Benefit's "That Gal" Primer and use it on many of our brides that have normal to dry skin. Why do we love it so much you ask?

"That Gal" primer is just so versatile! When used alone on the face sans foundation, it imparts a super subtle glow on the skin. It's also a master primer under foundation that gives the perfect amount of moisture, hence using it on brides with normal to dry skin.

It has a barely there shimmer, more like a glow, that truly makes the skin look soft and flawless, evening out little imperfections. We apply it with a foundation brush like Bobbi Brown's, though in a pinch you could use your fingers or a sponge.

Did we mention that it smells fantastic!

The Dolls Recommend - Our Black Eyeliner Picks!

If there was ever a product that was indispensable to The Makeup Dolls, used more often then not, it would be black eyeliner. Whether we use it to make a thick, glamorous stroke on the lid or thinly tucked between lashes to build up the lash line, black eyeliner always has it's place on our eyes and in our hearts! Here are our favorite picks, the best of the best:

MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil:
Incredibly soft, the application of this pencil is simply effortless! Long wearing and waterproof, the black pigment is super rich and can be layered to intensify the color. A tip: A little time in the freezer before application will keep this pencil from being too creamy and will bring it to the perfect consistency for application.

MaybellIne Expert Eyes Twin Brow & Eye Pencil:
The # 1 eye selling eye pencil since the 1920's! Now that is impressive! This dual-purpose pencil works as a defining brow filler and precision eyeliner. Here's a hint: Burn the tip of the pencil with a lighter to soften it up a bit and when it cools to the touch, swipe away. The texture and color are just perfect and at $2.99 for two pencils, what's not to love?

Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner:
Glides on effortlessly, no skipping here! This liner doesn't set too quickly so it gives you a bit of extra time to get the line just right and it's waterproof to boot! This liner can hold it's own against tears and heat, our choice for our brides.

Fabulous Finds - Dry Shampoo

We have all heard from our stylists that it's best not to wash our hair daily as it strips hairs natural, healthy oils, right? So what is a doll to do to keep her hair looking it's best in between suds? The answer is dry shampoo! There are many different brands to choose from but these are Violet's, makeup and hair artist extraordinaire, favorite picks:

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk: It smells fresh and clean, absorbs excess oil and adds va va voom volume to your locks!

Renee Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo: A fantastic choice! It has a fresh, "green" scent and efficiently does its job with oil absorption from cornstarch while it refreshes with peppermint oil.

Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder: This product is a bit different from the others because it's on double duty beauty patrol! While this dry shampoo absorbs oil and gives volume it's color also covers up those pesky roots in between touch ups at the salon! It comes in 5 perfect shades and also in a travel size for Dolls on the go!

*Available at Sephora and online through Bumble and Bumble's website or selected B&B licensed salons

Beauty Inspiration - The Golden Globes

Sunday night's Golden Globes attracted all the Hollywood beauties! We watched as they glided across the red carpet in various styles from bold, bright frocks to rich black slinky gowns and ethereal sky hued designs. All the starlets captivated the shutterbugs but there were two standout beauty looks of the night, Olivia Wilde and Penelope Cruz. These glamorous looks would translate perfectly to a rehearsal dinner or bridal look.

Olivia Wilde was simply stunning in Gucci with a pulled back ponytail, soft curls and added volume at the crown, a perfect look for an engagement party of rehearsal dinner! Her makeup was clean with smokey brown liner (notice that you can do smoky eyes with brown shades instead of black). A strip lash added volume to Olivia's lash line to showcase her almond shaped eyes. The finishing touch? A creamy pink cheek and lip were chosen to balance the look.

Penelope Cruz's look epitomized Hollywood glamour. Subtly smokey black and burgundy shadows combination was the perfect choice for her rich brown eyes paired with a mid-rose tone lip that harmonized beautifully with her just back from vacation tan. Her makeup artist Scott Barnes used one of The Makeup Dolls favorite beauty products from his line "Body Bling" on her decollete to further even out her tan and add a touch of shimmer. Penelope's look would be an amazing choice for a bride seeking a glamorous edge for her big day!
